Honored as professor emeritus, Roger Clayton Gledhill, PhD has devoted his career to teaching and political action. For many years, he taught as an associate professor of statistics at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan until attaining emeritus status. He also served as an assistant professor at Old Dominion University, as well as an MBA thesis advisor in Norfolk, Virginia. Earlier, he gained expertise as a business statistician at Key and Solomon, having also offered his knowledge as a consultant to Hayes-Albion, General Electric, Cleary College, Ford Motor Company, RCA and the CIA.
The highlight of Dr. Gledhill’s career was being hired in 1995 by the Bulgarian government to be a member of a 12-person team of American economists to help them transition from a communist system to a free market system. Their responsibilities were to lecture on Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations, make suggestions about adapting the Constitution to modernize it and make it suit their needs, advise them on setting up a Central Bank, to advise them on setting up an open market stock exchange, and oversee their first free election since the end of Communism there.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Gledhill earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in economics and finance with a minor in mathematics from Miami University in 1965 and a Master of Arts from the University of Massachusetts in 1972. From there, he matriculated at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, attaining a Master of Science in 1973 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1976. He also holds a certification from the National Association of Rudimental Drummers. Dr. Gledhill attributes his varying success to many great professors and his wife’s influence and support.
